Born in Prince George Parish in 1749, Lynch was educated in England and returned to South Carolina with a law degree, but chose to take up planting, leaving politics to his father. After serving in the Provincial Assembly Lynch was elected to the Continental Congress in 1776, joining his ill father, and signed the Declaration of Independence, speaking not only for himself, but also for his dying father. In 1777 Lynch returned to his plantation where he became ill and died.
